Over priced on their food and TERRIBLE customer service! We ordered 5 meals and our pulled pork sandwiches came on sandwich bread and when I mentioned the dissatisfaction of not being told they ran out of burger buns and what we paid per sandwich..the older gentleman working says “oh well, it’s yours now” and walked away. Waited almost an hour for mediocre food and terrible service. Used to go all the time and definitely will not be returning.
There is always a friendly crew and at least a few genuine smiles behind the counter. This is a great place to come in and eat and treat yourself after a long hike, or on a hot day! You're garunteed to find something you like on their extensive concession menu! If you are visiting one of our many state parks or preservations, then I highly suggest you stop in!
Super nice friendly atmosphere and the ice cream was worth the drive
Delicious ice cream, cute little shop
Quaint little ice cream parlor with an eclectic collection of trinkets and decorations. Mostly traditional flavors here (Zanzibar chocolate was great) but it was a welcoming treat after a hot hike at starved rock.
Delicious ice cream and wonderfully friendly service! Only drawback would be that they only have 8 flavors of hard pack ice cream. They do also have soft serve though.
This place used to be one of our favorites and we'd go here often cause they had both soft and hard ice cream. I ran in there about a week ago to ask for how long they'd be open and the man (owner I assume) yelled back to a woman and then she responded by also yelling which as a customer was just kinda shocking. We went today and purposefully called to make sure they'd be open (we drove 15 minutes) and while it was 6:50 we were still told they would be open until 7. The owner yelled at us and told us screw you, when we brought up that we were told they'd be open until 7.Personally, it seems like their business has gone down, since the last time we were there. We will never go again, Tastee Freeze is a great option is Spring Valley! Otherwise there's other ice cream places down the street (even closer to Starve Rock) that looked like they had much fresher ice cream.
5 stars for the ice cream. Decent variety and unusual flavors. It was a great end to a day of hiking in the state park. Service was friendly and patient (we had a tough time deciding on flavors).
Worst “slushee” ever. Ice & flavoring that we could barely taste. Never again
We has cookies and cream and birthday cake fudge swirl ice cream--both delicious! There's a cute store with candy, stuffed animals, mugs, etc., too. Cute place, good for ice cream, but wouldn't buy other food here.
I scream for ice-cream! I love coming here after a hike
We use to go there all the time, but they are never open or close 3-4hrs early and never kept to the hours stated. We went at 630pm they had the open sign on, but one of the employees was shouting rudely at anyone who pulled in that they were closed. Thier ice cream is good but we are definitely finding a new ice cream joint.
A good variety of handmade ice cream treats to choose from. They'll make any of their ice cream into a shake, so we had mint chocolate chip ice cream shakes. Really good! Friendly staff. It hit the spot after a few hours hiking in the hot sun. Nice atmosphere too.
The BBQ pulled pork was great and the ice cream there was a perfect way to end a day of hiking at Starved Rock. Thank you for the great meal and hospitality. 😊 Friendly local spot.
5 stars for ice cream! Great scoop flavors. Didn't get any of their food. Graft service and friendly staff too.
Ice cream is good. Selling the fur of murdered domestic rabbits, most people consider as pets, F- ; and enough to make every pet lover puck.
Great ice cream and really friendly staff!
I'm stop and visit this place for quick pick ice cream. I'm little dissatisfied becouse ice cream are very sweet and teste like sugar.
Best icream around and HUGE variety of food.
It was fine. Mystery sediment in soft serve ice cream. Tasted fine, no sickness thus far.
Always busy, but definitely worth the wait! Fries were amazing!!!
nice and friendly place.
Hard to catch your favorite ice cream flavors here. Big menu for a little joint, though.
Place was not that busy but the soft serve was not the right consistency and the employee stated it to the manager before she told him to give it to us. For the kids they handled the sprinkles for their ice cream with their bare hands (which is gross even without covid). They didn’t have milk for milk shakes. So we ordered nachos. The employee took my money and then with his bare hands grabbed the chips to put into the container..... after I said something the manager dumped out the chips but proceeded to do the same exact thing of grabbing chips with her bare hands. Just not establishment that seems to be concerned with health code or public safety.
Delicious ice cream and soft serve!
Got an orange slosh and it had ants in it
Delicious ice cream, great prices and ran by an extremely nice family! So glad we stopped here after our visit to starved rock, we will definitely be back!
Really great ice cream
Only one person working, so it took forever because he had to ring up, prepare food, and deliver it. When I finally got to order, they were out of the ingredients to make 3 different kinds of sundaes, so I gave up and just got the kids' plain ice cream. The ice cream was ok, nothing special. I will definitely NOT be returning.
Ice cream was good. Actual building is interesting and the staff member wasn't very friendly.
Good ice cream and good prices.
Great ice cream flavors, and the owner was very nice and patient
Expreso Ice cream is excellent
Best ice cream in the Midwest, when you like natural flavors. Worth the money. Great for the whole family.
Cute, quaint, and yummy. Childlike fun for all ages. I love to support small business such as this.
Delicious ice cream. So creamy. Tried the pumpkin ice cream and it was amazing. We had our dog with from hiking at the parks and they offered a Pup sundae of vanilla soft serve with some milk bones in it in a paper cup. My dog loved it! Thanks for having treats for the fur kids too.
She was nice but the root beer float was super expensive and the ice cream and root beer were basically store bought
Great ice cream been going there every time I go to starved rock.
